Some of you may have already read this over on the Oracle but this is the afore mentioned 'Green Manifesto' by which my family and I live. I can't say with complete honesty that I haven't deviated sometimes; I mean all my clothes from the charity shop just isn't possible but for the most part it is how we live.

Spring this year saw a massive change for my family and I. We were looking at selling our little 2 bed terraced house to buy a slightly bigger one. After watching an edition of 'It's not easy being green' I formulated This Green Manifesto.

 Instead of moving to a bigger house we bought sofa beds
 I realised a dream and dug a vegetable patch. Organic of course.
 We buy most of our clothes from charity shops
 Use non animal tested eco friendly household and personal grooming products.
 All lightbulbs are now energy efficient and we DO NOT leave electricals on standby.
 Conserve water by not flushing the loo unless it needs it and sharing the babies bath water on a rotation.
 I have a wormery composter and we recycle everything. If the council wont take it then we take it to the recycling tip.
 Things we don't want or need are carbooted or given to charity. Including furniture!
 And finally we are having the windows done to keep heat in and lining the loft space with duvets bought from charity shops.

All these things are so simple to incorporate into an ordinary life. You don't have to have solar panels fitted to become more energy efficient. If you put all these very small changes together they will make a big difference. Not only to our environment but to our pockets.

As Pagans we should automatically be caring for our mother earth. NOT by porporting to 'heal her' with crystals, which presumably have been wrenched from her in the first place by blowing f**king great chunks out of the ground, but by not adding to the s**t we bury in her in the first place. I mean how disrespectful can you get :?:  :!:

*pauses for breath*

I realise some of you might think this a bit harsh and that's fine, that's the beauty of tolerance but it is my firm opinion that we should all be doing what we can to honour the Earth, my Goddess, by living just a little bit more thoughtfully.

What could you be doing to reduce, reuse, and recycle?
Do you feel that this is unfair or not do-able in your area?
Are you enraged at my suppositions?

Then get involved. Tell me what you think. Discuss damn you!

Well we are lucky where we live as the council now comes round to pick up our cans, plastic bottles and paper waste, so this is mucho goodo on the recycling count and not filling the bin up with so much crap. Glass bottles we take to the bottle banks

As we have a new (ish) baby, the disposable/boil the old ones debate came up regarding nappies, and after some searching around decided that with the amount of poo that comes out of my little angel, we would be boiling stink bags 24/7 which was probably as damaging to the enviroment!

I did suggest just laying down a giant ground sheet in all rooms and let her go nekked and poop as she wanted.... but for some reason mrs talizin didnt like that idea...

Energy saving bulbs... have a few which were given to us, have been hearing some reports that the energy it takes to manufacture these new bulbs at the moment actually outweighs their purpose.. Im not saying this is true but its something im going to have a look at when I get 5 mins!

the crystal earth healing thing... hhmmm I think it can work, I know a few peope who have done earth healing using trees as a conduit to the earth, I've done it a few times myself, but I agree whats the point of doing this if  in the next breath you pollute in some way.
As for the way crystals are harvested this is a mahusive debate that is going to be one of those things some people just won't agree on. Personally when I buy my crystals I always try to make sure they havent been harvested by blowing them out of the earth!

more opinions please!

Finally someone grew a pair    :D

Cheers Talizin.

We had the same debate about baby butt coverings and personally I'm loving the 'giant groundsheet' proposal.  :D  I buy eco disposables as much as possible but even then you have to way up the odds. There are some factors, like them being the size and consistency of a breeze block with the absorbancy of a flip-flop, which makes some brands just totally untenable. I try to look at availability, cost, absorbancy and biodegradability (I think I just invented a new word  :? ) to see which one comes out on top.

I also try to check the chemicals that are used, like the bleaches and the gel stuffing etc. (why I would never use pampers!) Actually the best ones we've found are Asda'a Little Angels Eco Baby range. It includes degradabe wipes and nappy sacks. I'm also potty training my 18mth son early, as every success in the pot means one less nappy in the bin. :)

As far as the crystal debate, it's not one that we're ever gonna settle really. I've not used them since someone described to me exactly how they're mined and I just thought it was barbaric really. I use what I call universal gifts for any workings I do. These are the stones, twigs, feathers, etc. that I'm either drawn or guided to. I feel that they're enough for me.

Horses for courses though isn't it.  :D

Yup courses for horses..

I think there's more than one way of mining the crystals, its something definately having a looksee around for!
I like the sound of the asda eco thingymajugalies, will have a look out next time i'm there!

I like using what you call universal gifts too, its a good way of using the things unique to that particular season you're in.
I have a collection of stones I sometimes pick from riverbeds, some I used for a rune set, some I use to carve bindrunes and the like to make talismans, charms ect :)

I think that makes them much more personal as well. I went into my grove when I was looking for materials to make a travel charm and was guided to exactly what I needed. It was lovely.  :D

I know that some crystals are mined naturally as it were. Like not using explosives and high pressure hoses and stuff. There are few that are 'found' though I think and for the most part would be well out of my price range and in all honesty I don't really feel the need to use them in my practice. Doesn't make them any more or less potent I don't think.  :)
