Ok I thought I'd have a little leap into this board as its a subject that interests me greatly

I'm wondering what the modern definition of alchemy actually is. I know the first thoughts that jump to mind is the old science that gave birth to the likes of chemistry. But also there are the elements of transmutation and also those lovely bits of folklore regarding the philosephers stone, turning lead to gold etc.

I'm wondering though what it actually is in this day and age?

from the bits and pieces i've read, there are so many different kinds of alchemy, at least one of which is actually still outlawed.

i think the underlying message of it these days is to instigate transformation for the better.
